The right tools are essential when working with eyelash extensions. Tweezers are, of course, a key component. In every procedure, a lash technician uses at least two tweezers: one for isolating natural lashes and another for applying extensions.
The tweezers should feel like an extension of your hand. Take your time to choose comfortable, high-quality tweezers that suit your technique. The right pair will help you work efficiently and accurately without fatigue. Poor-quality tweezers, on the other hand, may cause strain and mistakes — and in the long term, might even discourage you from continuing in the profession.
Previously, lash artists only had two basic types of tweezers to choose from: straight and curved. But with advancements in technology, the variety has expanded. While this offers more choice, it can also be confusing. We're here to help you find the perfect tweezers for your needs.
It’s important to understand that there are still two main types of tweezers — straight and curved — and the rest are variations of these.
Straight isolating tweezers – designed to isolate natural lashes during application.
Curved tweezers – ideal for classic techniques and Russian Volume up to 6D. Suitable for all fanning methods.
"Bent" type tweezers – used for classic techniques and Russian Volume 2D–11D. Popular among professionals who use the sticky strip method.
75° tweezers – suitable for classic techniques and Russian Volume up to 4D. Perfect for hand-fanning or working on the sticky strip.
Mini L 45° tweezers – used for classic techniques and Russian Volume up to 4D. Designed for hand-fanning or working on the sticky strip.
Mega Volume "Axe" tweezers – ideal for creating 2D to Mega Volume fans. Favoured by professionals using the sticky strip method.
L-type Volume tweezers – designed for creating 2D–5D Volume fans. Widely used by professionals who form fans manually.
The type of material: Opt for stainless steel or Japanese alloy steel. These are durable, hygienic, and long-lasting with proper care.
Coating types:
Weight: Lightweight tweezers reduce hand fatigue during long sessions (1.5–2.5 hours). However, tweezers for Mega Volume should be slightly heavier for better control when holding fans.
Sharpening: High-quality tweezers are hand-sharpened for precision. Sharp tips are crucial for grip and fan creation.
Ease of closure: Tweezers should not require excessive pressure to close. Overly stiff tools cause fatigue and reduce application accuracy.
Closing precision: The tips must align perfectly and close completely for precise lash handling.
Aperture: The optimal opening between the tweezer arms is 6–8 mm. Too narrow or wide indicates a poor fit for professional use.
Straight tweezers are used primarily for isolating natural lashes, but some lash artists also use them for classic application. Curved tweezers come in various tip lengths and angles, each suited to specific techniques.
The most recommended options for Volume lash work are the L-type and Axe-type tweezers. These have wide flaps for securely holding fans and are ideal for lash artists who use the manual fan-creation technique. The optimal tip length for L-type tweezers is about 1 cm after the curve.
Incorrect tweezer grip can slow your work and strain your hand. Hold the tweezers with three fingers: thumb, index, and middle. Some prefer using the ring finger as well. Place your middle (or ring) finger one phalanx from the tip for best control.
The most popular models among professionals are the VEKI Mega Volume Tweezers (Model PLT-606-S) and the VEKI L Volume Tweezers (Model PLT-501-S).
